Background information
The next Czech Presidential election will be held in February 2008. The Czech President is indirectly elected by a joint session of both chambers of parliament. The current incumbent Vaclav Klaus is running for a second term. His most serious challenger is the widely respected Czech-US economist Jan Svejnar, who has not previously been involved in national politics.
